Our History
This is our story.
The MGM prefix started with Marian and Gordon Merry who lived near Sun Prairie, WI. Gordon was the son of Bill Merry who was one of the first Polled Hereford breeders in WI and was a cofounder and first president of the WI Polled Hereford Association. Durwood and Gordon Merry carried on the love affair with Hereford cattle.
Durwood passed it on to Richard and his two children Josh Merry and Sondra (Merry) Brancel. Sondra and Tod Brancel operate Next Generation Genetics and have two children - Blake and Bryce Brancel who are very involved with Hereford cattle.
Steve and Jann Merry partnered with Marian and Gordon Merry since 1982. Since Gordon’s passing, they have continued the MGM herd of 50 Hereford cattle near Hartford, WI on a 144 acre farm. We raised our 3 children on the farm. Matt, the oldest, has a herd of Hereford cattle near Endeavor, WI. Ginger our daughter lives in Denver and our youngest son Dan also lives in Colorado. We have 3 grandchildren Willa, Jack and Noah.
MGM highlights include selling 3 bulls to AI companies. The bull most notable - MGM DR Mega Banner was an all-trait EPD leader and birth weight leader for 10 years. MGM bulls have been high sellers at the OHIO Beef Expo, ILLINOIS Beef Expo, IOWA BEEF EXPO and many times at the WISCONSIN Hereford Association Sale. When the children were showing MGM had Champion Heifer and Bulls at the WI State Fair and Champion Heifer at the World Beef Expo.
In recent years the MGM focus has been on producing cattle with high quality carcass traits emphasizing both REA and marbling while maintaining good maternal traits, growth, and sustained fertility.
